Sandwich bread… (eggless & dairy-free)

This sandwich bread has perfect crumb and texture .It is soft and light .
Also it is eggless and dairy - free ..

  • Prep: 1 hr 30 mins
  • Cook: 35 mins

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups All purpose flour

1 1/8 tsp Instant dry yeast

1 tbsp Sugar

1/2 tsp Salt

2 tbsp Oil

1 cup Warm water

Directions

1In a bowl ,mix flour ,yeast ,sugar and salt .

2Mix it well .

3Add warm water and knead for 6-7 minutes .

4Add oil and knead for 3-4 minutes .

5Shape it into a ball . Apply oil and transfer it into a well oiled bowl . Cover it with cling film and wait for the first rise .

6Let it double in size .

7Gently punch down the dough and knead it for a minute or two .

8Using a rolling pin , roll it into rectangle shape and roll the dough tightly into log shape .

9Transfer it into a loaf tin . Cover it with cling film and wait for the second rise . Let it rise . I used 8"x 3.5" loaf tin .

10Meanwhile pre heat the oven at 180 degree C for 10 -12 minutes . Apply water on the risen dough using a brush and cover the tin with aluminum foil .

11Place the tin on the bottom rack of the oven and bake for 30 minutes , Now take the tin out , remove the aluminum foil and apply butter /milk /eggwash it . Place it back in the oven ( without the aluminum foil) and bake it for another 5-6 minutes until the top is evenly brown in colour .

12Transfer it to a wire rack and apply butter or oil with a brush . Allow it to cool at least for 2-3 hrs before slicing .

Does this bread tastes like the one we get in India? I’m in USA and most of the white breads we get here are different and tastes also different when it comes to making sandwiches, bread rolls and bread pakoras. I miss that Indian taste🙁

Hello Maam,

Maam I tried the recipe, but the top crust didn’t come out as brownish colour, it was white. That’s why I baked it for around 10 mins after removing the aluminium foil but the same white crust was there. I can’t figure out where I did the mistake. Please help me out Maam .

Hi Shano mam…I love the way you have put the recipe. It’s so simple to do and I baked my 1st bread today…loved the rise that I got. However the top didn’t brown well. And it kinda cracked too on the top. I followed the recipe to the T. Can you pls help me with what could be the reason. I baked in a microwave convection.

Nusrat ..few points to be noted..
Over kneading will make the bread dense.
Right temperature while baking..I bake at 180 degree C
Cover the baking tin with aluminium foil while baking.
Eggwash / apply salted butter for evenly brown crust.Bake it in fan mode..

No dear..the bread will be dense if you substitute Apf with wheat flour..
For eggless wheat bread..follow the wheat bread recipe which I’ve posted..instead of egg , add 3-4 tbsp of extra milk..

Akila.. 1tsp instant yeast is equal to 2 tsp of active yeast .
