1Wash and clean the dates and cut it into small pieces. In a saucepan boil 150 ml of water. Turn off the heat. Transfer the chopped dates into a small bowl and pour the hot water into the bowl .Stir it with a spoon and keep it covered with a tight lid. Let the dates soften. Keep it aside.Let it cool well.
2Meanwhile grease and dust a 8" round cake tin. Sift flour , cinnamon powder, nutmeg powder and baking soda thrice and keep it aside. Keep orange zest and juice ready. Roast the walnuts for 3-4 mins .Chop it into small pieces and keep it aside.
3Using an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar well. Add orange zest.
4Now add slightly beaten egg.
5Now , using a spatula gently fold in sifted flour mixture , orange juice and dates along with the liquid.
6Fold in roasted walnuts.
7Transfer the batter into the prepared cake tin and bake for 40 mins at 150 degreeC or until done.
